Roger Roberts & Co. is a firm of chartered building surveyors and corporate building engineers providing professional consultancy across a broad range of areas to businesses and home buyers across South-West Wales.

With headquarters in Ystradgynlais, and consultants operating from Hirwaun, Aberdare and Llantwit Major, Roger Roberts & Co. is well placed to conduct a range of comprehensive building and planning surveys and accessibility audits, or to provide independent building advice to business large and small, as well as private clients who are ready to purchase a home or looking to remortgage.

The firm has a basic policy of employing experienced building surveyors and engineering services with practical trade experience; Roger himself started out in the industry as an apprentice bricklayer. Combining the skills of the professional building surveyor with those of practical and experienced construction personnel is a cornerstone of the firm's aim to produce an effective task force.

Additionally, Roger Roberts & Co. runs an estate agency tied with the Halifax plc. Anne Roberts administers the estate agency, while Roger and the team of consultants concentrate on the surveying side of the practice.

The firm receives commissions for RICS, HVS's, detailed architectural plans for both new build and renovation work, building regulations and planning applications, full site control & supervision on both new build and renovation work, disabled access audits, housing grants Construction & Regeneration Act 1996 Grants administration and control, building condition surveys, structural reports/calculations and all types of residential building pathology.

Roger Roberts & Co. will soon be expanding its footprint in South-West Wales, with the opening of a new office in Swansea planned for 2005.

Meet the Team

Roger Roberts

BSc (Hons). MRICS. FNAEA, FBEng.

Roger has been in the building industry for 41 years. He took up the trade as an apprentice bricklayer, and has worked in all areas of the industry since then, establishing his first office in the Neath area in 1972. He worked as a surveyor running two estate agents offices, including time as a building contractor from 1980 until 1990, when he became a Chartered Surveyor.

He spent several years as a Registered Clerk of Works, Contracts manager, Building condition surveyor and latterly as a Renewal Area Manager for Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council, while assisting his wife Anne with their private practice Estate Agency. Over the past 5 years, Roger has worked almost full time as a Chartered Surveyor in this practice.

Roger is a BSc (Hons) Building Surveying graduate of the University of Glamorgan, and is currently completing an MSc Degree in Inclusive Environments through Reading University. Roger is also an Assessor for The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in South Wales for people training to become Homes Inspectors and has recently established Homes Inspectors Wales Limited, which will offer training and inspection services throughout Wales.

David Vivian Jones

TechRICS.

Viv has been in private practice for the past 40 years, and is based in Hirwaun. Viv's work centres around planning and development, with a focus on designing building plans for housing, self-build extensions, and commercial and light industrial development. Viv has been a Technical Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors since 1998, and was formerly an Associate Member of the Society of Surveying Technicians.

Ian Colston

JP. DL. CLJ. MA. FRICS. FAAV. IRRV.

Ian has close to 50 years experience in the chartered surveying industry, having started in the industry as an improver and qualified associate with W H Cooke & Arkwright, Chartered Land Agents, based in Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan. Ian is the founder director of TEAM South Wales Ltd and TEAM Surveyors Ltd and works extensively in South Wales and London.

Anne Roberts

FNAEA.

Anne owns manages Roberts Homes Estate TEAM Agency practice which employs Roger Roberts & Co. as their Consultant surveyors. Anne is a Fellow of the National Association of Estate Agents. She has successfully sat parts 1 & 2 of the Licensed Conveyances Examinations but has undertaken not to practice. Anne is also currently training to become a chartered surveyor.
